Madden Julian Oscillation will also arrive in the Indian Ocean around the mid January, with the background of La Nina planetary waves may spend more time at Indian Ocean & Maritime continent. The existence of planetary waves and a streamlined, strong easterly flow from the Pacific Ocean are expected to results enhanced rainfall activity over the southern Indian peninsula from January 10, 2024.
For the majority of the southern Bay of Bengal, the sea surface temperature stays around 28 to 29°©. which makes it favorable to have rainy occurrences during the following two to three weeks.
Tamil Nadu is expected to be affected by the fresh easterly wave associated with trough of low at January 10–12, 2025. During this winter, unseasonable rainfall in most districts of Tamil Nadu. Chennai and other parts of North Tamil Nadu also have good rain chances.
Especially Delta & South Tamilnadu (Cuddalore to Thoothukudi) districts likely to see heavy rainfall activity during Jan 10-12th, 2025.
Extended Northeast monsoon activity in the winter and unusually high January rainfall are expected to have a significant effect on the paddy harvest.
